Men, for example, have a tendency toward prostate problems. Eating tomatoes and or tomato products such as sauces contain lycopene which is a natural antioxidant and is beneficial for prostate health. Lycopene is a carotenoid, a pigment contained in tomatoes, apricots, guava and watermelon. Lycopene has been studied in its effect on certain chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Studies suggest lycopene may help prevent cardiovascular disease
Although some studies have shown mixed results. Lycopene may protect against cardiovascular disease by decreasing cholesterol levels and increasing the degradation of low-density lipoproteins.
Men are typically bigger than women and require more calories per day. To maintain a good energy level and maintain weight a man’s diet should include a regular intake of whole grains, breads, rice, oats, fruits and vegetables. Eating these foods also increase fiber intake which helps keep hunger in control and maintain digestive health.
In general, men tend to eat more meat as the idea that more meat means more muscle on the body. However, eating excessive amounts of meat has been linked to increase in heart disease and cancers, particularly colorectal cancer in men. It is recommended that a man’s diet contain less meat and more nuts, seeds, olive oil and fish.
