Natural Remedies

As you study the practice of Yoga you will learn more about your body and become more in touch with your health. You will likely learn more about eating better for good health and in general taking better care of yourself.

In spite of your efforts from time to time you may catch a cold or cough, etc. It is important to pay attention and avoid taking excessive medicines.

The good news is there are many natural home remedies you can try.

For a bad cough try making a tea using rosemary, lemon, ginger and honey. This combination works for many reasons, the rosemary helps loosen congestion and soothes coughs. The honey (preferably a local honey) will help build immunity to allergens and soothe sore throats as well as sweeten the tea. Make the base tea using fresh rosemary or dried, if you use dried you should use a tea ball to make the tea.

Add Lemon slices for flavor and vitamin c. The ginger is another ingredient that will soothe the cough, aid in digestive issues and build immunity. Simply grate ginger root into the tea. Sweeten to taste with honey.

Make a can of chicken soup, add one teaspoon crushed garlic, sprinkle crushed red pepper and drink as hot as you can stand for soothing sore throats, coughs and colds.

If your sinus cavities are clogged and you are having trouble breathing, try using a saline solution in a Neti Pot.  You can safely cleanse and soothe your nostrils using this method.

These are only a few ideas, we will share more in future blogs.
