Skin Care, Yoga and You
Caring for you skin is an ongoing process, just like Yoga.
The most visible organ of your body is your skin. Wherever you go, whomever you meet, your skin goes with you.
One of the most important and simplest steps to healthy and soft skin is to drink plenty of water. Hydrating your body will help keep your skin replenished.
As well, if you use a water conditioner and have softened water, you may find that soap does not rinse as well and you may have a residue on your skin.
Make sure to fully rinse and pat dry your skin after baths or showers. Moisturizing while skin is still damp with baby oil or even pure coconut oil will help retain the moisture in your skin and leave it feeling nice and soft.
Getting adequate rest is another essential element to keeping your skin healthy. Avoid excess stress as much as possible. Cigarette smoke, even second hand, will take a toll on your skin.
Deep breathing techniques such as those used commonly in Yoga will help regenerate cells and keep skin healthy.
Cleanse skin with non soap cleansers. Soap can dry skin out. Cleansers don’t have to be expensive to work well for you skin type. If you have oily skin, you may want to use an astringent soaked cotton ball to wipe your face after cleansing.
Misting with fresh water throughout the day can keep the skin supple.
Make sure your diet includes rich, dark leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables. These are nutrient rich and contain antioxidants which help purify your system.
The regular practice of Hot Yoga as well will keep your blood circulating and improve your overall health and well being.
